Objective The applicable value of excretory urography in pedicled urethral caruncle targeted resection was discussed . Methods Excretory urography examinations were performed before operation for all 26 cases with pedicled urethral caruncle underwent targeted surgical procedure. 30 cases were surgically managed on the basis of visual diagnosis. The operated time, blood loss volume, indwelling Foley catheter time and postoperative hospital stay were recorded. Results The operating time of experiment group was shorter than control group, 13.04±6.41 min and 15.27±8.40 min, respectively (P<0.05). The blood loss volume in operation was also significant, 2.84±1.23mland 3.24±1.51 ml, respectively (P<0.05). The differences of indwelling Foley catheter time (2.92±1.56 and 3.33±1.81 s, respectively) and postoperative hospital stay (5.19±1.36 d and 5.53±1.69 d, respectively) between them (P>0.05) were no significant. Conclusion The effect of excretory urography examination before operation in patients with pedicled urethral caruncle is evident. It is an effective mean to reduce operating time, blood loss, and also the risk of postoperative infection.
