Purpose To investigate the expression of autophagy-related genes LC3,Beclin-1 and apoptosis-related gene BCL-2 in bladder urothelial carcinoma tissues, and to explore their correlations with the tumorigenesis and development of bladder urothelial carcinoma. Methods Immunohistochemistry were used to detect the expressions of LC3,Beclin-1 and BCL-2 in 10 specimens of normal bladder tissues and 56 specimens of bladder urothelial carcinoma. Results LC3 expression was higher in bladder urothelial carcinoma than those in normal bladder tissues( P<0. 05).This high expression was associated with histological grade and tumor stages( P<0. 05).The expression of Beclin-1 was higher in bladder urothelial carcinoma than those in normal bladder tissues( P<0. 05),and was related to histological grade( P<0.01).The expression of BCL-2 increased significantly in bladder urothelial carcinoma( P<0. 01),and was correlated with metastasis of lymph nodes( P<0. 05 ).LC3 and Beclin-1 expression were found to have positive correlation with BCL-2expression in bladder urothelial carcinoma by the Spearman rank test, and their correlation coefficient were 0.3436(P<0.05)and 0.3593(P0.01),respectively. Conclusion The increase of autophagic capacity and decrease of apoptosis are both involved in the bladder urothelial carcinoma. The autophagy-related genes LC3,Beclin-1 and apoptosis-related gene BCL-2 coordinate with each other, and may be related to tumorigenesis and the development of bladder urothelial carcinoma. The union examination of LC3,Beclin-1,and BCL-2 protein may be helpful for the prognosis judgment of bladder urothelial carcinoma.
