Abstract Objective To detect the serum levels of midkine (MK) in patients with renal carcinoma (RCC), and to discuss the value of determination of MK in the aspects of diagnosis and the condition of the disease. Methods The survey was conducted in 63 patients with primary renal carcinoma and 45 cases of benign renal disease (kidney stones, kidney cysts) and 30 healthy persons selected in the hospital between February 2016 and August 2016.The patients were divided into two groups: research group (n=63) and control group (n=75). By collecting the related clinical data, extrac the venous blood in patients with renal carcinoma preoperative and postoperative (seventh days) and control group. ELSIA technique was used to measure MK level in peripheral blood of each group so as to analyse the correlation and compare the difference of the expression of MK in different groups. Results ①Peripheral blood MK values in healthy control group, benign renal lesion group, renal carcinoma group (preoperative) were (27.33±3.19) ng/L, (34.63±2.28) ng/L,(60.25±1.88) ng/L, renal cell carcinoma group (preoperative) higher than that of benign renal lesions were higher than those in healthy group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.01). ②Preoperative and postoperative peripheral blood MK value in renal cell carcinoma group were (60.32±2.01)ng/L and (50.36±3.12)ng/L, renal cell carcinoma group (preoperative) higher than that of RCC group (postoperative), the difference was statistically significant (P<0.01). ③Renal carcinoma stage was positively correlated with MK value in peripheral blood, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.01). Conclusions ①The expression of serum MK in renal carcinoma is significantly higher than that of the benign renal diseases and healthy subjects. ②The expression of serum MK in renal carcinoma (preoperative) is higher than that of renal carcinoma (postoperative). ③MK value increases with the stage of renal cell carcinoma, and the staging of renal cell carcinoma is positively correlated with MK value in serum.
