Objective To explore the feasibility, safety and efficacy of multiple-channel minimally invasive percutaneous nephrolithotomy(MPCNL) in recumbent position for the treatment of staghorn renal calculi. Methods Clinical data of 39 patients with staghorn renal calculi who were treated with PCNL from March 2011 to December 2015 were retrospectively reviewed. All patients were divided into two groups, 17 cases in recumbent position treated with multiple-channel MPCNL(group A), and 22 cases in prone position with standard signal channel(group B). The therapeutic effect, complication and the total hospitalization expenses of the two groups were compared and analyzed. Results The operative time, intraoperative postural comfort degree and stone free rate in group A were higher than that in group B (P<0.05). The postoperative hospital stay and the total hospitalization expenses in group A were lower than that in group B (P<0.05).There was not statistically significant difference between two groups in postoperative complications and postoperative hemoglobin changing, serum creatinine on postoperative (P>0.05).Conclusions Multiple-channel MPCNL in recumbent position is better than standard signal channel prone position PCNL in the improvement of calculi clearance rate after a single session, shorten of hospitalization day, and the decreasing of total hospitalization expenses, other than the enhance of operative complication rate. The multiple-channel MPCNL in recumbent position is a preferable surgical method for the treatment of staghorn renal calculi.
